Outdoor Forest Museum Featured

The Outdoor Forest Museum in the Horotna Valley next to the Veil Waterfall reminds of the old forest crafts and the poor living conditions of the ones performing these works. The tools, buildings and work phrases of such crafts were reconstructed in their original environment, like log cutting, lime and charcoal burning, shingle, resin and glass making or potash cooking. Walking through these tools we can imagine that almost only the beauty of nature compensated the forest workers for their hard physical work. Open all through the year. The Forest School was among the first ones in 2005 to get the “Qualified Forest School Service” title and to receive the “woodpecker” logo. Interlinked educational topics of the educational program: basic nature knowledge, ecological phenomena, forestry knowledge, environment and nature protection knowledge, cultural history knowledge by showing the values of the West Bükk region. Besides its exhibition area function – thanks to the developments made by Egererdő Zrt. – the Outdoor Forest Museum is also an outdoor classroom. Near the gazebo building, visitors and forest school attendants can get acquainted with operating models showing utilizations of renewable energy (sun, wind, water) and devices showing wood as renewable energy source and base material.
