In the beginning the classical Hungarian carriages were used in driving competitions. As the conditions to participate in the competitions became stricter, these traditional size carriages were not suitable anymore. Keeping the style and the basic design of the carriages, our carriage makers made wider and shorter carriages than the traditional ones that fulfill competition conditions. Furthermore, for the cross-country course they designed a special vehicle, the so-called marathon carriage. It is worth sharing the story of this too: In 1978, on the Four-In-Hand Driving World Championship in Kecskemét, one of the drivers of the English team was the helicopter manufacturer Alan Bristow. He sadly experienced that the carriages built for good roads are breaking and falling over on the cross-country course. Returning to England, he designed a special, impact-resistant, low base carriage with his designers that is suitable for the second day, the so-called cross-country course of the driving competitions. Since then, the cross-country or marathon carriages almost developed faster than cars and the newest technical solutions are built in to ease the driver’s work.
