Lipizzaner

National Stud Farm Szilvásvárad, Central Office Featured

The Lipizzaner horse was meant to increase splendor and luxury at the service of kings and queens. The baroque-type outlook, attractive movement, spotless “white” appearance of the breed provides a unique experience.

We count the Hungarian breeding of Lipizzaner horses from 1806, and it was after several detours that the stud settled at their current breeding place, the Bükk Plateau, where the environmental conditions suit the needs of the breed the best. Currently 70 broodmares and the stallions ensure the further development of this exceptionally valuable breed in Szilvásvárad. The current horse stock counts approximately 250 horses. Until they are 3 years old, the foals live in Csipkéskút, which is a highly protected region of the Bükk National Park.

The task of the Szilvásvárad National Stud Farm – called today National Stud Farm Szilvásvárad – that was established in 1952 is to preserve the Lipizzaner breeding stock of Hungary.
