At first we follow the yellow stripe sign in the Tótfalusi Valley leading us towards east from the Szalajka Valley. On the right side of the path we can find a built out spring with good water, which is the Tótfalusi Spring. 100 meters after the spring we leave the asphalt road. We arrive at a nicely situated clearing at the meeting of the two valleys. Long time ago Tótfalu, the small municipality of the Slovakian forest workers stood here. The sign crosses the asphalt road once again, then starts to get steeper and steeper. The serpentine path leads us to a mountain saddle.
This is already the neck of the Gerenna Castle. From here a yellow L sign path with steps leads up to the ruins. Arriving at the small plateau-like “castleyard” the view from the elevated spot of the tower to the left (west) is beautiful towards the valley. The hardly recognizable ruins of the other castle of our region, the Éles Rock Castle are also visible from here. In the north-east corner of the castle we can see the buried remains of the past buildings in a strongly demolishing state.
On our way back we follow the same path we took on the way up until the saddle, but from here we turn to the left on the asphalt road, and continue our path following the yellow + sign towards north. Where the asphalt road takes a sharp turn to the right there is a small parking space and stairs are leading downwards. It is worth going down, as from the lookout terrace on top of the rock wall the view is amazing into the depths of the Leány Valley and to the peaks of Ölyves Rock on other side. In clear weather the High Tatra Mountain can also be seen from here.
After following the asphalt road for another 2 km we can choose whether to continue following the sign and return to Szilvásvárad to the castle on the Bérci road or follow the asphalt road until the west end of Kalapat and take the trail under the Millenium Lookout, which leads us to the entrance of the Szalajka Valley.
